Te Rōpū Whakahau awards
The first award, Te Tohu Hoani Te Whatuhoro Jury is being awarded for te wahanga pukapuka pono, the non – fiction section. This year it goes to the series of four books published by HANA, written by Hana Pomare and translated by Heni Jacob : Kapa, Te Nui, Te Mata o Tuna and a Hina rāua ko Mo’o Kuna.
The last two titles were illustrated by Ellie May Logan.
‘Te Mata o Tuna, and a Hina rāua ko Mo’o Kuna are superbly illustrated by Ellie may Logan a mixed media artist using intricate clay art which add an almost three dimensional effect to the illustrations. Every time you “read “the illustrations you notice another detail.
The online books also add a further dimension to the reading experience of these books as well as providing valuable teaching and learning resources.
This series of four non-fiction books take us into the Pacific. The first two retell legends about Hina or Sina from the Pacific. A Hina rāua ko Mo’o Kuna is a legend about Hina from Hilo, an island in Hawai’i and Te Mata o Tuna a legend about Hina from Manihiki in the Cooks.
Excerpts from Te Kura Pounamu Speech 2011

Geek Feminism
online magazine article including LOGAN’S geekiness
written by Alex Moss and Hayley Gullen

Why do only men get to be geeks? Many women are just as interested in geek subjects such as sci-fi, computing and cartoons, and should have equal access to geek culture. We did a little research and found out that there are loads of girls blogging, chatting and writing about geeky subjects. To find out just how widespread this girl geek culture is in the UK, we talked to four of the country’s geekiest ladies.
Logan
Logan is an artist based in Hackney Wick in East London. A self-confessed nerd who “always painted and drew as a dorky kid”, her most recent project has seen her combine her love of comics and horror films in the creation of 800 images for a graphic novel adaptation of George Romero’s 1968 movie, Night of the Living Dead.

A fun collaboration of paper, scissors, pens , brushes, glue, masking tape, music and clever animators! www.moving-picture.com. Honoring Michael Jackson on the fouth and final set change with dancing zombies and DJ Paul Hanford’s well timed music, the V & A foyer set was also tranformed with oversized cut out trees.
